About Our Beginnings

Like many small businesses, the idea for Checks & Balances sprang from a conversation around the kitchen table. My husband and I were discussing our current jobs, the economy, and our desire to become more self-reliant.

A cutback in hours at my job left me exploring my options. Although I enjoyed my work, being an employee placed limits on my time, creativity, and my earning potential. I was interested in small business operations and had often dreamed of owning my own.

I knew that many small businesses were in need of experienced bookkeeping and clerical assistance. But as a small business, many are not in a financial position to attract experienced help or incur the expense of a full-time employee.

And so began Checks & Balances Bookkeeping Service...

Experience

With over 15 years of bookkeeping and office experience, my employment history includes work in the oil and gas industry, engineering and design, construction, law firms, and agribusiness.

I've been a Legal Secretary, A/R Bookkeeper for a multi-million dollar business, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistant. I have continued to build on my skills by completing courses in accounting, office management and collection law. Other courses I've taken include NALS Legal Secretary, MicroSoft Excel Basic and Advanced, and MicroSoft Office.
